Faculty of Science, KKU Welcomes Representatives from the Embassy of France for a Visit to the Department of Physics under the Campus France Thailand Initiative

On 16 January 2026, the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by Prof. Dr. Supreme Pinitsoontorn, Head of the Department, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanayut Kaewmaraya, Lecturer in the Department, together with Dr. Sukhum Ruangchai, Assistant Dean for International Affairs and Public Communications, warmly welcomed representatives from the Embassy of France in Thailand and presented them with commemorative souvenirs.

The French delegation was led by Mr. Ludovic Andres, Attaché for Scientific and Higher Education Cooperation, accompanied by Ms. Sujira Panyawattana, Student Advisor, on the occasion of their visit to Khon Kaen University under the Campus France Thailand initiative.

During the visit to the Department of Physics, Mr. Ludovic Andres held discussions with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanayut Kaewmaraya, a faculty member who was awarded the French Embassy Scholarship 2025 by the Embassy of France in Thailand to conduct a short-term research visit in France from 30 November to 14 December 2025. The research project, entitled “Machine Learning for Boosting Calculations of Thermoelectric Energy Conversion in Meta-valent Bonded Chalcogenides,” was conducted in collaboration with Prof. Sebastien Lebègue, CNRS Research Director at the Laboratoire Énergies & Mécanique Théorique et Appliquée (LEMTA, UMR CNRS 7563) in Nancy, France.

In addition, information on French scholarships was presented to students of the Department of Physics, including the Franco-Thai Scholarship, which offers students opportunities to gain international academic experience. The visit also highlighted opportunities for learning the French language, noting that international students are entitled to enroll in French language courses free of charge. Based on past experience, Thai students who have participated in exchange programs in France have been able to communicate in French at levels ranging from A1 to B2.

The discussions further included exchanges of ideas on potential future collaboration, particularly in the development of double-degree programs with French institutions.

The visit by representatives of the Embassy of France in Thailand under the Campus France Thailand initiative reflects the long-standing and strong relationship between the Embassy and Khon Kaen University. This activity represents an important opportunity for students, faculty members, researchers, staff, and interested individuals to gain greater awareness of scholarships, exchange programs, and pathways and experiences for further study in France, paving ways for greater capacity building and for strengthening the University’s progress toward internationalization in the future.
