Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, together with its Taiwanese partner, National Sun Yat-sen University, opens Taiwan-Thailand center

On Monday, 22 December 2025, the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), Taiwan, held the opening ceremony of the Khon Kaen INTACT Base (International Talent Circulation Base), the third INTACT Base established in Thailand and operated under the INTENSE Program (International Industrial Talents Education Special Program), which aims to promote educational cooperation and international workforce development between leading higher education institutions in Taiwan and its partner countries.

The opening ceremony of the center proceeded smoothly and began with a video presentation introducing the INTACT Base Khon Kaen. In the video, Prof. Ming-Hsuan Lee spoke about the INTENSE Program, stating:

“Thailand’s higher education is known for its  quality; therefore, the Ministry of Education in Taiwan entrusted National Sun-Yat Sen University, and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology and also National Chung Hsing University to set up bases in Thailand. and to establish collaborations with Thailand’s universities.”

Her remarks clearly highlighted the tangible educational opportunities and career pathways available to international students in Taiwan.

The opening ceremony was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Phanthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, who presided over the ceremony and delivered the welcoming remarks. He was joined by Prof. Ming-Hsuan Lee, Vice President for International Affairs of National Sun Yat-sen University, and Ms. Ann Hsueh, Education Secretary of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, who also delivered an inaugural speech to commemorate the opening of this collaborative center.
The Faculty of Science was represented by Asst. Prof. Angkana Boonyued, Dean of the Faculty of Science, who was accompanied by associate and assistant deans, as well as  heads of department and faculty members. The event was attended by more than 100 Khon Kaen University students, interested in internships, further degrees, and job opportunities in Taiwan. 

In his welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Phanthongviriyakul expressed his warm welcome and sincere appreciation to the delegation from Taiwan. He also highlighted the role of the INTACT Base Khon Kaen, which was established through collaboration between Khon Kaen University and National Sun Yat-sen University, with the aim of serving as a hub for the exchange of knowledge, technology, and workforce development aligned with the needs of the industrial sector. In part of his remarks, he stated:

“I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the close collaboration with National Sun Yat-sen University, our key partner in the establishment of the INTACT Base Khon Kaen. Our cooperation has been continuously strengthened, including the signing of a university-level Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which reflects the shared long-term vision of both institutions in education, research, and human resource development.”

Prof. Ming-Hsuan Lee then spoke about the origins of this collaboration, stating:

“Earlier this year, National Sun Yat-sen University had the honor of welcoming a delegation of 23 administrators and faculty members from the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University. This visit coincided with the launch of the INTENSE Program by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. As a result, the establishment of the INTACT Base in Khon Kaen symbolizes a strong commitment to nurturing high-potential talents, strengthening collaboration between industry academia, and creating clear pathways for students to pursue further studies along with career opportunities in Taiwan.”

Finally, Ms. Ann Hsueh delivered remarks highlighting the significance of the INTACT Base Khon Kaen, stating:
“The launch of the center in Khon Kaen marks the full expansion of our service network to Thailand’s northeastern region. This is the third INTACT Base, following the establishment of the first center in Bangkok and the second in Chiang Mai.”

She further emphasized the future vision, noting:
“Taiwan is ready to further expand cooperation with universities in Thailand in areas such as joint degree programs, student exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives, in order to create new opportunities for human resource development and to foster sustainable people-to-people relations.”

In addition, the event featured presentations on the INTENSE Program and the collaborative efforts of participating universities in Taiwan. The session was honored by the presence of faculty members from several Taiwanese universities, who joined the event to provide guidance and introduce their institutions. These included Prof. Ru-Chu Shih, Dean of the Office of International Affairs, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology; Prof. Chi-Ming Hsieh, Vice Dean of the Office of Research and Development at National Chung Hsing University; and Asst. Prof. Duc-Thang Vo, Vietnam INTACT Base Lead Coordinator, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

They shared insightful information on scholarship opportunities, including eligibility criteria, internship opportunities, and professional life within the industrial sector. The event also featured special activities organized by the Chinese Language Center (CLC) of National Sun Yat-sen University, aimed at enhancing participant’s understanding of Taiwanese culture and deepening their appreciation of Chinese language, thereby inspiring students and attendees alike.

The opening ceremony of the INTACT Base marks an important first step in promoting the career development of Thai students in Taiwan. This collaboration also reflects the strong partnership between Khon Kaen University and National Sun Yat-sen University, demonstrating their shared commitment to developing the potential of Thai students to an international level and providing opportunities to work with organizations abroad.
