On June 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, the Faculty of Science at Khon Kaen University organized an orientation for graduate students for the Academic Year 2025. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khatcharin Siriwong, Associate Dean for Administration, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rodjana Burakham, Associate Dean for Research, along with faculty members, heads of departments, and departmental representatives, participated in the event. Over 40 graduate students attended the orientation at Room 1101, Faculty of Science.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khatcharin Siriwong, welcomed the students and emphasized the distinction between “students” and “graduate students.” He highlighted that graduate students are “graduates who come to study,” primarily focusing on self-driven research rather than solely relying on instructors for teaching or guidance. He also highlighted the Faculty of Science’s readiness in terms of expert personnel and advanced research equipment, which students can fully utilize.
Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khatcharin Siriwong advised students to leverage the free AI technology provided by the university for their studies and research. He compared using AI to driving a car, stressing that students must know how to “use it effectively,” not just “be able to use it,” and must exercise critical judgment in analyzing data obtained from AI.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rodjana Burakham, Associate Dean for Research, introduced the faculty executives, heads of departments, and program chairs. She also provided information on research requirements and ethics for graduate students, emphasizing the importance of research integrity and avoiding unethical practices such as plagiarism, data manipulation, or creating false data, which could affect their degrees. Furthermore, she recommended best practices for conducting research, recording data, and efficiently utilizing the faculty’s research instrument center.
Ms. Parat Kothisen and Ms. Naruenart Khunatham, educational academics from the Educational Services and Student Development unit, introduced essential information systems for graduate students. These included the online petition system (GS Forms), the Graduate School information system, the educational petition system (REQ), and the registration system (REG). They also provided guidance on thesis registration and the process for appointing academic advisors.
This orientation helped new students understand their roles as graduate students, comprehend the educational system, and prepare for high-quality and ethical research, aligning with the Faculty of Science’s vision of developing highly skilled scientific personnel for national development.
