Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Kawamura, Director of the Office of International Academic Support of the Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University (HU), visited the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, to discuss collaboration between the two science faculties.
On 10 February 2025, Prof. Kawamura was welcomed to SCiKKU by its dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Angkana Boonyued, who was joined by Assistant to the Dean for International Affairs, Dr. Sukhum Ruangchai, and two mathematics lecturers, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pongsakorn Yotkaew and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttawoot Nupo.
During the visit, the two sides expressed their shared intent on developing a closer and more meaningful relationship, with research collaborations, student and staff exchange, and double degree programmes among the topics discussed.
The relationship between HU and KKU started in 2017 when two postgraduate students of SCiKKU conducted their research internships at HU. Soon after, the MOU between the sciences-related faculties and schools of HU and the Faculty of Science, KKU, was signed. Since then, HU has played host to a number of SCiKKU students and staff, while SCiKKU has welcomed several professors from HU, which signifies the strong collaboration between HU, one of Japan’s most prestigious universities – ranked 8th nationally and 173th internationally according to the QS World University Rankings 2025, and KKU, the main university in Thailand’s northeastern region.
